Ash vs. Ratnam in round one!

mani ratnam,aishwarya rai

In what’s proving to be a clash of the Titans, director Mani Ratnam and acclaimed actress Aishwarya Rai-Bachchan are having a small tussel and it’s all about pancake! Ratnam’s reasoning is that since Ash’s character has been abducted in the second-half, she shouldn’t have any make-up on in an effort to show her pain and grief. The actress completely disagrees. The set-side report is that while the exacting and strict director wants Ash to go bare faced, the beauty queen seems to be having a tough time sticking to instructions. She manages to sneak on to the set with minimal make-up. But the eagle-eyes Ratnam is quick to spot that her face has been done up. With neither of the big icons backing down, this one struggle promises to grow longer than Hanuman’s tail. The film is expected to be ready for release in 2010.

Asin hot bollywood actress pictures 070409

Asin, who is currently filming Vipul Shah’s musical bonanza ’London Dreams’ alongside stars like Salman Khan and Ajay Devgan, admits to finding a few differences between Bollywood and Kollywood. First and foremost, the rising star believes that the South Indian industry displays a remarkable sense of punctuality.

Pointing out that film units in the South start early and wrap up on schedule, Asin reveals that it is fashionable to be late to a Bollywood set. The starlet was also introduced to the concept of assistant directors whose main purpose was to monitor her presence on the set. Though the entire ’Ghajini’ (with Aamir Khan) unit was from the South, ’London Dreams’ has her working with a complete Bollywood unit. The actress reveals that when the cast and crew were shooting in London and Paris, they were given a bound script, shoot schedule, a detailed weather report, location map and reporting time. Also different is Mumbai’s crowd according to the actress. Calling them “cool”, the actress says she’s been enjoying her every moment in Bollywood.

Suriya's intellectual film

Nothing succeeds like success. Suriya should know. Still basking in the success of Vaaranam Aayiram, the suave Tamil actor is all set to showcase a new facet of his talent in his upcoming KV Anand film, Ayan. Releasing this Friday, Ayan is his most expensive film till date.

On the eve of Vaaranam Aayiram, Suriya had appeared quite nervous. This time, however, he looks very confident. Suriya describes his new film as ’an intellectual but commercial film,’ and tells Rajaneesh Vilakudy what to expect: There is something for everyone in Ayan -- be it a journalist, a politician, a labourer or a layman. I am very happy with the outcome of the film. The story can happen to anyone anytime. It is an ordinary story with many layers to it. You read a report in a newspaper and then turn the page. It could be yet another report. But the incident may have many sub-stories.

Also, I’m focusing on building my career in Tamil now,” says the actress who has landed herself three roles with big heroes in Tamil. The biggest of them all will be ‘Vettaikkaran’ in which she is paired with Vijay.

The scene involving the hero and the heroine meeting for the first time in a railway station was shot recently, and those in the crew say it’s one of the funniest introduction scenes ever. Following ‘Vettaikkaaran’, Anushka will pair with Suriya in his next film, ‘Singam’. The film, directed by Hari, should give her a break showcasing her as a village girl, as Hari often does. The movie will be Hari’s third with Suriya, after ‘Aaru’ and ‘Vel’. And then, she has also signed to do a film with Karthi, titled ‘Siruthai’.
