Mallanna (Kanthasamy in Tamil),with Vikram & Shriya in the lead, is getting ready. Post productionwork in full swing and the audio will be launched on May 19. It is a superhero film with outstanding special effects andgrandeur. The photo session and the promo shows Vikram in six getups,including that of a lady, a Zulu, a Krissh-like comic-book hero, RamanaMaharshi , and with a rooster mask. In a couple of photos, the Vikram-Shirya pair looks likebusiness executives flanked by Africans in the backdrop of Saharadesert. The album has turned out to be a curious product in theindustry.

Kamal can’t vote!

Kamal Hassan is absolutely livid with rage. He will not be able to exercise his franchise, at Corporation School near Nageswaran Rao Park in Mylapore, Chennai as his name is not there on the voters list! The ‘Ulaganayagan’ who was shooting in Hyderabad for his Unnaipol Oruvan, was to fly to Chennai and cast his vote and go back to work. A furious Kamal said: “It is for the first time that I’m denied my fundamental right to vote. I pay my taxes from my Eldam’s Road address. It baffles me why I don’t figure in the voters list.” The Corporation Commissioner and district electoral officer Rajesh Lakhoni said: “ Mr. Kamal Hassan’s name does not figure in the electoral role as his house on the address given has been rented out as a godown. And he was not available for enumeration at the given address. According to our records, he is not a resident of the city.”

Rajinikanth and Suriya vote with their families

Superstar Rajinikanth and his family consisting of wife Latha and daughter Soundarya voted at the Stella Maris college booth, a stone throw away from their Poes Garden residence. Rajini was mobbed by the huge media contingent, but he just smiled and made the correct sound bytes. Meanwhile the generation next superstar and the current flavour Suriya accompanied by his father veteran actor Sivakumar, mother and brother Karthi voted at the Hindu Prachar Sabha in T. Nagar in Chennai.

Aishwarya Dhanush is Reema’s voice

Sounds confusing? Or did you think this was about Aishwarya Dhanush and hubby Dhanush singing for a song in ’Aayirathil Oruvan’? No. The dancer turned assistant director, who has worked as an assistant to Selvaraghavan in his magnum opus, ’Aayirathil Oruvan’, has also contributed as a dubbing artiste for the film. Aishoo, as friends call her, has dubbed for Reema Sen’s character in the film. ’Aayirathil Oruvan’ features Karthi, Reema Sen and Andrea in the lead, and is produced by Dream Valley Corporation. Music for the film is by GV Prakash and the film’s audio is expected to be out this month. Said to be a film that extends to the 12th century as well as the present, the movie has been in the making for two years now, after Selva’s highly acclaimed ’Pudhuppettai’. Parthiban plays a period King in the film, which is said to be an action movie. Though Sister Soundarya Rajinikanth has made herself a name in animation and film production, Aishwarya Rajinikanth has been creating waves by working as an assistant to Selva and announcing her dreams to direct one day. Being a dubbing artiste and playing singer are the newest additions to her celluloid dreams. Way to go, Aishwarya!

Bhumika Chawla will feature alongside Mohanlal in a Malayalam movie ‘Bhramaram’ which is directed by Blessy. Revealing about her character in the movie, Bhumika said that she plays wife of Mohanlal and her role is that of a Kerala girl, in which she will be seen sporting a lungi and a blouse. She said her character will be a turning point in the movie. Speaking high of Malayalam film industry, she said that Malayalam movies give importance to story. Having acted with most of the top heroes in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu film industry she is all praise for Mohanlal, who astonished her by his acting skills. Talking about marriage affecting the career of actresses, she stated that her marriage has not hampered her career in any way and many actresses are still successful even after marriage, she voiced.

Kanthasamy audio launch on May 17

Producer Kalaipuli’S Dhanu and Sony Music will unveil the long overdue Susi Ganeshan’s super hero Kanthasamy audio on May 17, Sunday at the Chennai Trade Center. As per sources it will be a grand affair, gigantic and entertaining. Some of the highlights are going to be 40 dancers from Italy, Vikram singing two of the songs from the film, Vikram and Shriya dancing to the tunes of Devi Sri Prasad and singing the hit number “Excuse me Mr. Kanthasamy…”! Devi Sri Prasad will dance with the Italian dancers and render the title song from the film. Says producer Dhanu: “The Kanthasamy audio launch will be the mother, of all audio launches. There will be great style and grandeur never seen before in Tamil cinema. The entire event will be shown live on Sun TV.”

Kanthaswamy's costumes for three crores

One of the big budget films in 2009, ‘Kanthaswamy’ has Vikram and Shriya in the lead. Director Susi Ganesan says the film’s storyline demanded a big budget. “In fact, we have not splurged just for the sake of it. We have spent where it is really necessary. But costumes in the film will be a highlight,” says the director. “Vikram, playing a superhero in the flick, wears clothes worth Rs 75 lakh alone, while Shriya, whose glamour and acting will be a highlight in the movie, wears clothes worth a whopping Rs 1.25 crore,” he explains, putting the movies budget at over Rs 30 crore. “We wanted to shoot in new locations and toured and shot for a month in Mexico. We spent Rs 8 crores for shooting there, while some scenes and a song, shot in Itlay, cost us Rs 2 crore. Apart from these, being a superhero action adventure, the film has a lot of special effects. These have itself cost us Rs 3 crores,” says the director. ‘Kanthaswamy’, produced by Kalaipuli S Thanu, has music by Devi Sri Prasad and is likely to be a June end release.
